My 8N has also become very hard to steer lately. It has been sitting outside with a tarp over it and so I thought that it was protected. After some research I found that many of the original steering boxes were poorly designed for lubrication, so I found a plug on my steering box and promptly installed a grease fitting. When I pumped the grease in I couldn't believe the amount of water that was pushed up and out at the steering wheel! It steers much better but not 100% so there must be some damage internally as well as some water still there. I'll live with it for now. Hope this helps.
