Help Verifiying VIN or serial Number

Hi, I am trying to verify the VIN or Serial number on a couple of my dads old Massey Harris tractors, the plate that is normally on the side of MH tractors is gone, I know there is one other place around the transmission or something that has the VIN number, could you please explain how to find this, in your explanation please be specific, because I am not an expert around tractors. Thank you so much.
