It would help if we knew which way you are travelling. As far as rentals, not sure if there is anyplace that rents flat beds, although there probably is, somewhere. I would have thought the tow truck driver could have helped you with some information at least. If a tow company took it to their yard, aren't they responsible for any loss/theft? Most that I know of locally have secure yards that they put the stuff in. Just my thoughts.
