The following (and a few others) will cause black smoke, but you haven"t given us any history/indication of how the fault developed.

Lack of compression, lack of air to that cylinder, squirting injector (instead of spraying) are the choices.
Compression: head gasket, cracks, rings, piston, valves.
Air: cam lobe, valve gear.
Injector: injector.

You could remove the exhaust manifold and check for one cylinder that black smokes (then check compression, injector, compressed air test (this test is very useful in that you will hear where the air is leaking to, if compression is the problem).
