About 3 weeks ago I bought a new 6 volt battery for my Jubilee since the Interstate Workhorse had died after 5 years. I didn't have time to do anything with the tractor at the time so I just shoved the battery in and didn't bother to hook it up. Over the weekend I got told the lane had to be mowed and that I'd better get the tractor running. Cleaned the posts, cleaned the cables, hooked the battery up. Went to polarize the generater and couldn't get a spark. Tried to start the tractor and nothing. Relay wouldn't even click. Got out the VOM and the battery was dead. Three hours on a charger later, I could get the generater polarized. Starter spun the engine over twice, and the battery died. Fortunatly this was on Saturday and I could get a Farm & Fleet battery. Which I should have done in the first place. Took the battery back to NAPA and got a refund. Five or six years ago NAPA was getting 6 volt batteries with bad cells. I wonder now if they're not getting totally dead batteries.
