#1 your working the ground 2 deep and you need to lime black dirt you may have used to strong a fertlizer and burnt up the new grass . the best thing to do is fill in the bare spots that have holes then rent a slit seeder and put on the seed heavy then cover with straw and most important you need to keep it wet but not soggy for about 3 weeks this is the best time of year to start a lawn .
