Had a farm Close to Katy,Texas.Some neighbors around had army worms but I never saw one on my 306 acres.Years ago farmed clover and alfalfa in Carroll County,Maryland.Strange,my next door neighbor just 50 feet across my lane was raising Alfalfa and had tons of weevles and leaf hoppers despite spraying heavily.My clover field had practically no bugs.My field had been fallow for years so I limed it and had a fine crop.Iam no expert at farming but have done so as naturally as possible with as little salt fertilizer as possible.If I spray it is mostly for weeds not bugs except in the peach orchard were insects are awful.My neighbors all like to go heavy on chemical fert.and do get better yealds but I dont have the heavy input bills.I don't really know the answers but,bugs seem to enjoy the plant juices provided by chemical fert.I get some good info. on natural stuff reading a farm magazine ACRES USA.You can reach em at 1 800 355-5313.I do not work for them,but if you call, tell em sent you .They 'ell send you a free copy.John Cooney
