Cut Out on 6v Generator

I am trying to get a charge from my 6v generator on my '46 Case VAC. Have traced everything out to the cut out. Generator will weakly 'motor'. Have a new, what I think is a new 'cut out' for an Allis Chalmers but can't get a charge to show on the bat side. Does show a low charge on gen side. Does strength of generator cause this? Or, maybe it just isn't a cut out????? Any advice?? Or maybe I need a 2006 Case tractor!!!
