Our 1956 Ford 640 has the small shaft. The pulley drive we have, hooks directly to it. We also have the original Ford adapter which bolts on to the differential case. This adapter extends the shaft and resizes it so that it can be used on standard PTO equipment. I don't ever remember using the pulley drive, which was probably purchased when we bought a Ford 9N. The 640 replaced the 9N. We had a belted corn sheller but I can only remember it being used on the Farmall H, and that last happened in the real early 50's.
