I found that adding a couple rows of spring tooth on the back of the disk got me the same seed bed in two passes that took three without the spring tooth.

But now I'm finding that if I don't work it at all, the ground is more mellow, just put some Dawn trash wheels on the planter row units to part the weeds, straw, and corn stalks and planted. Of course, now I'm limited to sprays for weed control, but they don't take much fuel to apply.
