I'd go for the 3 pt because in rough land you will need to lift the mower off miscellaneous items such as logs, rocks, forgotten implements of destruction, etc. The trailer type more or less leaves you with a fixed working height, unless you have it pinned to a drawbar hitch. If you do that it shouldn't matter much, but the 3 pt will get in and out of tighter areas. And if you are handy and have some scrap iron laying around (you may find more while mowing), the conversion shouldn't cost anything but time, electricity, and welding costs.
