This might not be quite what you are looking for but what impresses me most is a good backhoe operator. To me, it's just unbelievable what a good operator can do. The guy I hire is in his 70's and can eithr work quickly or if the job requires close, fine work, he uses that bucket like a woman's hands in her flower bed.

I was in a meeting once where the question came up about the greatest invention of all time. The usual stuff was thrown out--computers, airplanes, etc. but I said "Backhoes!" Well, of course this bunch looked at me like I had escaped from the asylum. When they wanted to know why, I told them that the next time they had a project that required a lot of digging, to just grab the pick and shovel and go at it!
