I will assume that you are wanting to improve your fuel mileage. I can tell you from experience that the 300 six will not get significantly better fuel mileage to make the swap worth your time. I went just the opposite direction a few years ago, I have a '71 F-100 2 wheel drive. The truck originally had a 240 cubic inch six with a four speed. I pulled the six, dropped in a freshly rebuilt 390, and my miles per gallon actually went from about 12 with the six, up to about 13 1/2 with the 390. It's all about the size, weight, and gear ratios. The size of the engine has very little to do with miles per gallon.
