I have a 300 strait six bolted to a C6 tranny, and a 360 bolted to a three speed tranny, not sure what type. both are in 70's style fords. what could they be worth? any idea? I was thinking of putting the 300 and C6 in my 73' F-250.. would in bolt right in? wired up the same? or would it be like a two week deal to swap them out? thanks for any info! Tim Shultz

360 with a 3 speed? What did that come out of? 360s were Ford´s version of the Chevy 348 boat anchor. Low powered gas hogs.
The 300 and C-6 is a good combo for a pickup, but as said before, you won´t get good gas mileage, especially in a 3/4 ton. Best thing for your pickup is a stock 390 or 428.

I will assume that you are wanting to improve your fuel mileage. I can tell you from experience that the 300 six will not get significantly better fuel mileage to make the swap worth your time. I went just the opposite direction a few years ago, I have a '71 F-100 2 wheel drive. The truck originally had a 240 cubic inch six with a four speed. I pulled the six, dropped in a freshly rebuilt 390, and my miles per gallon actually went from about 12 with the six, up to about 13 1/2 with the 390. It's all about the size, weight, and gear ratios. The size of the engine has very little to do with miles per gallon.

Tim

That all depends on what is in the truck now as whether it will drop right in or not.

If this is the 4 wd that you have, what about the transfer case?

The 6 cyl. will be easier on gas.

Did you pull your truck at the pull?

If so how did it do or is this why you are switching motors? LOL

Yep, all depends on what has in the truck to begin with. Ford isn’t the easiest vehicle to make engine family changes to. If the truck came originally with a 302 the 300 will go right in. If it came with a 351,390, 360, 400, 460 it will be some work as the cross members and motor mounts are in different places. The radiator required for the 300 also has the upper and lower necks for the hoses on opposite sides from the V-8’s as I remember.
