Lucky to be alive

Our next door neighbor's sixteen year old son was almost killed Monday evening. This is the story his grandfather told me today. The son was raking hay with an IH 574 and a nine wheel rake. He was standing up on the tractor and hit a bump. The steering wheel came off the tractor and he fell off. The back wheel ran over him and the rake rolled him up in the windrow. The tractor went into a turn and was circling the spot where he was laying. His father was nearby and was able to get on the tractor and shut it down before it could run over him again. The boy is in the Winnipeg Childrens Hospital and doing fine. His pelvis is cracked in 3 places. No other broken bones, no internal injuries.

The tractor had new tires put on last year and the fluid was taken out then. That probably helped reduce the extent of the injury.
