Ken, I would back them off a little if I felt they were too tight. Belts are cheap and water pumps, alts, power steering pumps are not.
Up until this year I had a houseboat on Lake Powell and every spring we would hire out the maintenance work and they always had belts too tight. We would lose an idler pulley on each engine each year until I started backing off the tension. The new serpentine belts do not have to be very tight to work like the old V belts did. Greg F.
