I assume the threaded end of the rod is still in the knob and broken off flush. A new rod from the salvage yard is probably the best bet. If that's not an option and you're kind of handy and patient, then you could make a new rod and thread the end, or weld a new threaded end on the old rod and then find a new knob, or drill the knob outand re-use it or------------.
