John Deere 4430 PTO Problem

I have a John Deere 4430 that the PTO will not stay engauged. I have to hold the lever engauged with a strap while shredding. The PTO works fine although the lever doesnt lock in. Does anyone have any advice on what I should do to resolve this problem ?
