If the engine is running rich then heating up the gasoline will make the engine run leaner and improve fuel efficiency.
If the fuel is that hot then lot$ of your gasoline money is being vented out of the tank and into the air. Also the most volutile and easy to light fractions are gone 1st. This will make cold starts more difficult.
The cool cans worked great since the fuel was always in the mid 30'sF range. The airful mixture was easier to tune as air temp and humidity changed. One less varible.
Some sort of heat shield with an air gap on top and bottom would be wise.
