OT - truck tire blowout!

Was returning a borrowed cattle chute this morning. Had checked the air in truck tires, and aired this one uo to 40#, as it had been doing a little very slow leak. Was a practically new tire with probably less than a couple thousand miles. Drove about 5 miles to friend's houseat moderate speed, backed up to the garage, stopped, and we were in back unloading when BANG. Whole truck bounced like bomb went off. Tire had blown out - whole sidewall separated from bead, and had two splits clear from bead to edge of tread. Opened a hole in the side of the tire 8" wide and 6" deep. Thank goodness the truck was parked, could have been catastrophic at highway speeds. We use the truck only ocassionally, and rest of time it sits in the garage, probably less than 3000 miles a year. Anyway, the moral of the story - KEEP WATCH OF YOUR TIRES, they can fail you very unexpectedly!
