joe, If you ground out the wire at the sending unit the gauge should peg out. If it does this then the problem is in the sending unit, not the wire which would be very possible. Especially since you said it worked once in your hands and not later. There are woven wires inside those things similiar to a rheostat if you are familiar with those, and they go bad or unwind after a while. BE CAREFUL TO NOT GET SPARK ANYWHERE AROUND WHERE THERE COULD BE FUMES. skipper
