I had the head off my "83 pickup at 252K. No ridge and still had the crosshatch on #2 cylinders. I didn"t rotate the engine to check the others.
I used plain old 10-30 Quaker State and changed per Mfg. recomendation(7500) plus a few. Still clean as a bell except for some residue in the top of valve cover baffles.
