Non-Detergent Oil Or Not?

I'm planning to do my first oil change on a '52 Ford 8N. I called the previous owner and he said he has used non detergent oil in the past. He said not to use detergent oil as it will clean it out too much and then it will burn oil. Does this make sense? Should I use the detergent oil or not? I don't know how much oil it burns now. The tractor will be used maybe 10 hours during the summer in the garden, and 15 hours in the winter moving snow. Thanks
