I just got through with an overhaul on my '40 B. Pistons, sleeves, bearings etc. I used oversized (3-1/8"), step-head pistons in it. Stock flat-top compression (from the IH service manual) is supposed to be 105 PSI, I have 135+ now. I have not dyno'ed it yet, so I can't say if there is an increase in horsepower. You must keep your expectations realistic though, a 10% increase is still only an extra 1-1/2 to 2 horsepower, it won't turn it into a firebreather.

I did have trouble with the pistons touching the head. I believe it is because a previous owner had the head planed at some time in the past. I solved it by removing a tiny bit from each combustion chamber with a die grinder. Other than that, it needed no other modifications to the engine.
