Try using humor when someone is leaning on you, say something like; My dad said I was too ambitious when he found out I was going to be a parts man, he wanted me to study medicine. Just when it seemed like we were going to solve world hunger for good, you come in here needing a _____ and all is lost. Humility can be very disarming, poke a little fun at yourself. Look them in the eye and say, Ya know, you really do deserve a better parts man. When they are objecting, repeat and exaggerate what they have just said. Help them to see they are not being reasonable. We are much better at solving problems when we are confident and maybe a little relaxed. If any of this works let me know, so I can try it too.
