rewiring my 12 volt diesel

Hi, I just bought a 1950 something 8n diesel that already had a 12 volt conversion kit on it. The guy I bought it from had no idea how to rewire it. By reading the other messages it looks like some of the wires are connected to a resistor, or something that might had a dial on it. Can anybody help with a wiring diagram? Thanks
