Also have your cap checled. It should be a 4 psi cap. Also look at the water pump pulley. See if the belt is running on the bottom of the pulley. If it has the original pulley it well maybe and it should not be doing this. You did not say if the tractor was gas or diesel.

As I grew older (7), it was the thrill of my day to ride or drive on the tractor. My Papaw had a 1954 IH Super A that he bought to replace a Cub.
