They finally did away with that foolishness in Washington- I think because the State Patrol was in charge of the festivities, and they had cutbacks in staff and didn't have time to deal with it anymore. So when I went to the licensing dept. to transfer an out of state trailer recently, the only hangup was they wanted a gross weight- but the lady quizzed me on the size, etc., then asked (from a cheat-sheet) if I thought it weighed about 2,400#. Being a reasonably bright lad, I solemnly considered the proposition for a moment, then said I thought that was really, really close. The bureaucracy having thus been served, the rest of the transaction was completed without incident.
