Go to Golfcart.com and look at their museum. They'll give instructions on how to date the cart by serial number. I think two digits of your serial number will be the year. The plate on most early models is in one of the kneewells. I'd look for a number about '82. One trick to diagnose what's wrong with a cart is to jack the back up so that the drive wheel spins freely. That will help with a lot of things wrong, such as a locked brake or governors acting up. Be careful never to rev the motor over about 3600. The starter/generator's windings get forced out by centrifugal force and grind off if the motor is rev'ed too high.
