The narrow fronts were ideal for cultivating corn. Lots of ground clearance. With drop axle design or high rear wheels you could get up over 30" of clearance. No mop down. My regular job in May, June and first part of July was to cultivate corn from daybreak until about 10 when the dew was off the hay and then go out again after supper until sundown and cultivate corn again. That all ended and loaders and bigger tractors came along and the narrow fronts went away.
