The 400 is a pretty tough ol' tranny.

I'd for sure put on the GM external cooler if you're gonna tow anything at all and I'd plumb it in series with and downstream of the radiator cooler.

I dunno, the 400 uses a "stacked" shift instead of a "timed shift", so I really don't think the shift kit is even necessary.
