Patching a punctured rear tractor tire

Backed the bale spear right into the almost new rear tire on my Super C. What a sick feeling. Anyway, I've got a 1/4" diameter hole in the tire, although I must not have got the tube, as it has been holding air for the last two days. Is there a way to patch the hole in the tire to prevent future damage to the tube?
