The fuel pump must draw the gas from the tank so I would guess that you may have a pinhole in the line between the tank and the pump. You could try and run a rubber line from the pump into a gas can and see if it starts. If it does then I would inspect the gas line and pickup tube for holes. If you end up replacing the gas line be sure to use steel line and keep the rubber sections to a minimum, usually 12" or less each. HTH Jf
