Been through that, normal is pretty much what ever it takes to get it out of the shop without opening the hood. Had a 1992 Grand Marquis that lost a quart of COOLANT every 3000-4000 miles and was told that was "normal" along with the dirty sludgy oil I was draining every 3000 miles. Finally "made" them look for it before it went out of warranty, had found that it had a "sand hole" in the block from a poor casting.
