john deere a stuck

I recently bought i john deere a from a guy for $800 it was missing a carb,but got a carb on it. Me and my dad tried pull starting it today and got it runing drove it around for about 5 mins and it died. we got it runing again and was driving for about 10 minuts and it died.we couldnt find any reason for it thought maybe be a fuel problem and tried to start it again and it wouldnt budge even pulling it the tires just slide any help would be great. thanks in advance
