The tractors you see blowing black smoke at the pulls are diesels with the pumps turned up and sometimes modified to shoot lots!!! of fuel into the cylinders.Since a diesel can,t be flooded out like a gas engine,you want to shoot all the fuel into it as you can to make the most power.The smoke comes from the fuel thats not burned in the cylinders coming out the exhaust and burning in the hot exhaust system. Don't know why anyone would want a gas engine like a model A to smoke?
