Just take your time and wait until you find a good one at a reasonable price. Lots of overpriced ones and ones with problems out there. Some people feel that if it is being sold, it must have a problem otherwise the owner would keep it. Personally I don't subscribe to that theory. I have had good luck buying older used equipment and so did my father before me. If you are not sure if you can pick out a lemon in disguise, hire someone who can tell to come with. DO NOT be afraid to walk away if something isn't right. The cost of repairing major components like engine, transmittion, clutch or hydraulics can quickly drive the cost of cheap used tractor to above that of a restored one. A 4020 would be a good all around tractor. There is lots of demand for them, but there were a lot built, so there are a lot out there. They have their peculiaritites (SP?) like all tractors, but have stood the test of time. my two cents John

Product Review: Lead Substitutes - by Mike Schordine. Lead was oriinally added to gasoline as an upper cylinder lubricant. It lubes the valves and seats. If you rebuild the motor, you could use hardened seats and valves, and unleaded fuel. But if your old tractor runs good, a simple lead substitute added to the gas is a perfectly reasonable solution. And, if you are like me, your tractor is under cover, but it sits outside. So with every temperature change, the humidity in the air collects in the fuel tank, in the form of water.
