To clarify, he owns a 1946 2N Ford ENGINE. Unless the history of the tactor is known, the engine could have been swapped, and from what one reads on these boards, it seems like a lot of them have been over the years. To get some idea if the engine and rear-end match up, look at the casting dates on the rear axle "trumpets", and the hydraulic pump cover under the "belly" of the tractor. Back them, "just-in-time" manufacturing wasn't a big deal like it is now, and also, it is good practice to let castings "season" for a while before machining, so, likely the casting dates will precede when the tractor was assembled by a month or two, or perhaps, the better part of a year.
