This is a common problem caused by turning the steering wheel too far. It can be fixed without taking the gearbox off. Disconnect right and left tie rods then pull the left arm rearwards as far as it will go then the right arm forward to unmesh the gears. Re-engage with the pinion [wheel]if not syncronized do over slightly pulling one side or other. When in propery both side arms at center travel will point slightly to the rear. This is right out of the manual and experience
