It's probably a fuel or air restriction problem like the rest of the guys say, but it also could be a wiring or sensor problem, making the computer go into a protection mode that doesn't let it go any faster. Had that happen last September on an 05 Duramax. It would go to 40 MPH and no faster no matter what the engine RPM's were. It turned out some of the wiring harness was bad. We did have the 'check engine' light come on when this happened. Jim
