When I started with the local natural gas company in 1971 we had 4 or 5 Cleveland trenchers, all track machines. The biggest would dig a trench 5' deep and 1' wide, the smaller ones had 3' or 4' deep by 8" or 10" width. We used them up into the early 80s, they used Continental engines, either 4 or 6 cylinders. Some of these machines were painted red while others were yellow.
