A friend has a 1960 Massey Ferguson model MF65 with a 4 cylinder diesel. Somebody was mowing and knocked the oil filter off. The motor was run until it ran out of oil. It is now locked up so tight that pulling it around on the parking lot will not turn the engine. I am open to suggestions on where to start. Do these motors eat themselves without oil or do you think there is something salvageable in there? I am trying to get an idea whether it is worth it to take it to a machine shop or just buy another motor. I am also trying to get an idea of cost to rebuild or replace the motor. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
