Motor stuck

A friend has a 1960 Massey Ferguson model MF65 with a 4 cylinder diesel. Somebody was mowing and knocked the oil filter off. The motor was run until it ran out of oil. It is now locked up so tight that pulling it around on the parking lot will not turn the engine. I am open to suggestions on where to start. Do these motors eat themselves without oil or do you think there is something salvageable in there? I am trying to get an idea whether it is worth it to take it to a machine shop or just buy another motor. I am also trying to get an idea of cost to rebuild or replace the motor. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

My guess is that you will need a complete engine rebuild on it. No oil means the bearing will now be bad and the cylinder and rings will also be shoot. Normally I would say fill the cylinder with tranny fluid but I don't think it will help in this case.

Probably ate itself. The crank will either need ground or replaced. Rods might be bent, pistons wrecked, valve train shot. Pulling it around the yard trying to get it to turn isn't helping the thing. Either the rods or mains are seized. Previous reply is correct. Have to tear it apart to know for sure. Worst case scenario, you keep the block and everything inside is replaced.

You will never know until you remove the head, pan and pull bearing caps for inspection.
