You're looking at two things here: well, for certain, a clay hill will not be helped in any way, shape or form by merely disking it. You need manure, or compost, or something, to help your soil quality. Alfalfa likes brown soil, a lot of it.

The second thing is that clay areas are often dry and hard-packed, so it may be too compacted to plant anything there. Plowing and/or disking will certainly loosen this soil up. But then, you'd definitely have to plant new alfalfa and have the field sprayed for weeds.

But as I re-read your post, I note that you might be 'moving'. If this is the case, then just simply disk the field up and sow grass seed! And that will be the end of your 'troubles'!
