Due to your actions (ignoring your own brother) I sense some resentment or some jealousy. Must be an older brother for you to resent him so much. I agree with "BobMo" the younger brother just might be the "NO-IT-ALL" and isn't going to listen because younger brothers almost always are jealous and resentfull af their older brothers. Sounds like the "Stuff" You are doing wrong,(by your own admission),is the stuff that he is trying to help you with, But to call it gossip sounds resentfull. Did you ever think that as a brother that is trying to help a brother that won't listen he might just be going to the neighbors to find someone that you might listen to? But to delibertly choose to alienate yourself from him is a totally awfull and selfish act. Sounds like you are the one with the problem cause you Made the choice to not be an adult about the sitiuation. At least he is trying to help in his own way even if you don't like it. My advice for you is to "GROW UP" and at least approach your brother with an open mind. How do I know? Cause I am the younger brother that was in the same situation untill I "GREW UP" And started listening . Once I got past the Resentment and Jelousy and I realized that he was trying to help not control me I learned alot and life is good. I hope that you are "MAN" enough to make the right choice.
