I worked at an AC dealership for a few years. Four to be excact. In those four years the only engine we had with a ventilated black was a 301 out of an L combine. The other major engine problem was on a 7040. It looked like someone took a blow torch to the inside of the sleeve. Bad injector caused that. There were more with problems, antifreeze in the oil, that would potentially cause a complete failure like you talk about but when I was there (15 years ago) it was always caught before big trouble. Changing antifreeze every two years can avoid that problem and also we would convince the owners sometimes to return to factory HP. Many 7000 seriers out there running at anywhere from 200 HP to 250 HP.
