I think those hose loops are there to allow for a less rigid connection to the oil cooler. I know that my Fords are the same way, and the coolers are a bit fragile on them, and sensitive to vibration. If the lines were mounted to stiffly, the cooler might just crack and fail over time due to vibration and hose flexing..... With the long hoses, the soft hose does the flexing and leaves the cooler without load. Dunno for sure if I'm right, but it's an idea.....
