The first place I would look would be our federal government. Who else sells valuable equipment at dirt cheap prices? The attached link will take you to the outfit that currently brokers all government surplus. I don't see any complete engines today, but I'm sure they come up from time to time. Note that not all turboshaft engines are equal. I would look for an engine of appropriate horsepower that has both civilian and military versions. You should be able to pick up a used military engine for a fraction of the price of the civilian version, because the military engines can't be used on certificated aircraft. For example, the Pratt & Whitney PT6A and T74 are almost identical, but the T74 is not certificated. Here's a link to a company that sells used T74s: http://www.dynamicaviation.com/pt6a_20.htm I have seen a pulling tractor that used an Allison V12 aircraft engine. However, I think these engines are getting very scarce.
