JD 310 backhoe

My brother's backhoe was in the shop in New Orleans and it was flooded during Katrina. The shop is pretty much destroyed and we don't know how bad the backhoe is yet--planning to travel over there next week. The engine has "disappeared" and we don't know what else is missing. Does anyone have any leads on a replacement engine or possible interchange engines that would bolt in? I don't have exact info on the year model but I think it was an 80's model 4 cylinder.
