Maybe I wasn"t clear... Each man paid $9, BECAUSE each man got $1 back. The original $30 is the $9 each man paid, PLUS the $1 each got back. 27+3 still equals 30! The $2 the bellhop kept came from a $5 discount, in which case each man would have paid $8.33 (actually 8 dollars and 33 1/3 cents). Then it would be 25+5=30. It"s quite simple, and there is nothing wrong with my math, well, at least not this time :)
